Support our Libraries for Primaries campaign
The Libraries for Primaries campaign needs your help! We think every primary school in the UK should have a library and, now, we need as many schools as possible to write to their local MP.
At the moment, only 1 in 7 schools have a school library. We don’t think this is fair. As you know, libraries can be magical spaces in which we can learn about all sorts of exciting topics, travel through ancient worlds, understand more about people from different places and cultures, get lost in fantastical stories, and learn more about who we are and our place in the world.
We have written part of a letter that we need you to finish and edit to send to your local MP. The letter explains why school libraries are so important and why we believe every child in the UK should have access to a school library. In the letter, we would like you to either share your experiences of having a school library and explain what your school library means to you, or to explain why it is so important you get help to put a library into your school.
You can find out who your local MP is and their parliamentary email address by clicking on this link, typing in the postcode of your school, and going on their ‘contact information’ page. You will also find their postal address their, too. Find your MP - MPs and Lords - UK Parliament
Your voices are so important in this campaign, and we hope you will do what you can to encourage your MP to support the Libraries for Primaries campaign. If you have any questions, you can email us at policy@literacyturst.org.uk
Thank you for your help!
With very best wishes,
The Libraries for Primaries Campaign team
"For the children in our school, when they first went into the library, they were like, "wow". They looked around at the books and they were amazed… Without doing the programme, it would have taken us years to get that many different titles and that range of diversity. So just to have it was amazing"
